Developmental Community Music (DCM)

DCM is used around the world as a platform for creative play, music education, and music therapy.
DCM includes group drumming, world rhythms, songs, movement, and laughter!
DCM is for music educators, music therapists, music facilitators, musicians, and anyone who loves people on music.
DCM provides the skills and knowledge to design and present music-based, process-oriented, group experiences with educative and therapeutic goals.
DCM is much more than drum circles or learning and playing songs. It's an approach that draws from multiple disciplines, such as Orff-Schulwerk, Music Therapy, and many years of real world experience of working with groups of all types.
DCM was created by Kalani Das, MT-BC to answer the questions:

  • What are the crucial elements that make a music experience feel magical?
  • What are effective ways to empower people in music, even when they have low skills?
  • What are the guiding principles of facilitation, flow state, and therapeutic music making?
  • How does one support and guide a group without getting in the way or being controlling?
  • What is the process for designing a music-based program to meet a specific goal?
  • What are some of the biggest mistakes facilitators make and how to avoid them?
  • What program elements are needed to produce health-based outcomes?
  • What are the secrets to facilitating experiences that feel organic?
  • What is facilitation really all about?
